Royal Wood – Forever and Ever

Royal Wood is not the name of a band but a persons actual name.  It is confusing these days when names of individuals sound like a band name and visa versa (i.e. Billy Talent).  Royal Wood has already produced a number of albums but for the most part has been flying under the radar.  I think this song will change that.  Royal Wood is currently residing in Toronto but hails from Peterborough.  The song of the week is called Forever and Ever.  If you click here you will see a two minute video intro to the song.  If you click here you can download the song for free or listen to the entire song.

I think I am changing my posts to Friday as most new music is released on Monday, which doesn’t give me a great deal of time to sift through it all.

Enjoy!

Avicii – Wake Me Up, Five for Fighting – What If, Tom Odell – Grow Old With Me

Sorry I missed the last two posts, work has been busy, busy, busy.  To make up for it I am posting three, yes three, songs of the week…you can do your happy dance now !

Avicii is a Swedish DJ and re-mixer.  My friend Patty put me on to this song about a month ago but I keep forgetting the name of the artist, finally the last time we met I wrote it down.  Avicii is not an easy name remember.  In case you have not heard it yet the song is Wake Me Up.

The second artist and song of the week is by Five for Fighting and is What If off their new album called Bookmarks.  In case you were not aware Five for Fighting is the stage name of American singer-songwriter John Ondrasik.

Tom Odell is the third artist of the week.  He hails from Britain and released his first full album in June of 2013.  The cut that is doing well off the album is Grow Old With Me.

Have a fun weekend…I know I will.

Flash & the Pan – Welcome to the Universe

I have been looking for another song this week and I have not found anything that I really like so it is a Flashback Friday.  Flash & the Pan are an Australian band that have made six albums starting in the late seventies through to early nineties.  The band consisted of Harry Vanda and George Young, both former members of The Easybeats.  If you recognize the name Young, George is Malcolm and Angus Young’s  (AC/DC) older brother.  George also co-produced many of the early AC/DC albums.  His voice is unique, it sounds like it is put through a voice synthesizer.  In the videos he is the one with the darker hard.  Flash & the Pan was a band in the new wave genre and never really had a great deal of success in North America.  Somehow as a teenager I latched onto them and loved their sound.  If you have ever heard a Flash & the Pan song it was probably Hey, St. Peter, which is also a great song.  But my favourite song was Welcome to the Universe , it is off the “Lights in the Night” album and is the song of the week.  The only issue I have with this song is that during the first two minutes of the song they have this slow synthesizer intro, which after you have heard it once you will want to skip.  Fortunately in the YouTube video they cut that part out.  You gotta love these videos straight out of the 70’s early 80’s – don’t judge their musical talent by how terrible these videos are.

If you want to hear other good Flash & the Pan songs here are a few of my favourites.

The Colourist – Little Games

My son Max found this new artist and you can hear the sound of success in their songs.  It is a four member band from California, which you would not guess by the Canadian/British spelling of the word colorist.  The band called “The Colourist” released a four song EP on Aug 20, 2013 and it is quite good.  All songs are worth a listen.  The one that is attracting the most attention and my favourite is Little Games and it is the song of the week.
