Frank Turner – Recovery

Frank Turner’s story reminds me of Dallas Green (City and Colour).  Frank Turner was from a hard-core punk band called Million Dead and then when the band ended he changed gears and pursued an acoustic based solo career.  Dallas Green from Alexisonfire, a hard-core band, and Dallas went off to create his own solo acoustic career.  You do not see many people make this transition and if they do they are generally not successful at it but Dallas Green and Frank Turner are even more successful in their solo careers.  Frank Turner songs a more on the brighter side of life (at least they sound that way).  The song Recovery gives you an idea of how different two acoustic artists can sound…and it is a great song, so it is the song of the week.

Daft Punk – Get Lucky, Pet Shop Boys – Vocal

When I was young I strongly disliked disco but as I get older I find myself mellowing.  Yes you might even catch me on the dance floor boogying to Disco Inferno these days.  I think Disco or a variation of it is on its way back. Listen to the new Daft Punk‘s song Get Lucky, those guitars are dead ringers for the disco age, and they even threw in the robotic voice as a disco throw back bonus.  The Pet Shop Boys have a new song as well called Vocal and it too has the overtones of Disco.  Given the overwhelming amount of evidence that Disco is coming back, I think the time has come for us to reach into our storage closet and bring out those polyester suits and put them on and go dancing.  This time around I will not have to maintain my macho image and hate disco, I can just put on my boogie woogie shoes and get down.

Oh and by the way both songs are the song of the week….feel free to dance.

Clash – Police on My Back

Last week was a slow music week so we will be going back in time to pick a song of the week.  Last year when I went to Italy I racked up five tickets (speeding and other infractions).  All the tickets were captured by cameras so I had no idea I had any until I got home and they started rolling in.  Yesterday we received our first invoice for our first payment (probably close to $200 for ticket number one…ouch) and we are debating whether we should pay them or not.  The big question is, will I ever go back to Italy and if I do will I be driving?  So while thinking about this issue I picked this week’s song as it fits in well with my propensity to speed.  The song is the Clash‘s “Police on My Back“.

I though I would add a few more of my favourites from the Clash that you may have not heard before:

London Calling (entire album – if you do not have it in your collection go buy it now)

White Riot

Crystal Fighters – You & I

Hey, I remembered to finally post on time.  Crystal Fighters are a British/Spanish Alternative Dance band.  They are British artists but they formed the band in Spain.  They released their latest album in May 2013 called Cave Rave.  The song You & I is quite unique and it is the song of the week.

Gotta love the singing tree in the video.
