Vampire Weekends – Diane Young

I think we have a theme running through the last two songs of the week, yesterday the artist was Rob Zombie and today it is Vampire Weekends.  I guess Milla Jovovich and Kate Beckinsale through their relentless number of movies on the two subjects (Zombies and Vampires) have breathed new live into the genre…it certainly couldn’t have been those “well acted” Twilight films.  The week’s band hails from New York where they meet at Columbia University.  The song of the week is called “Diane Young” and I think it is a play on the words Dying Young.

Enjoy…let’s hope I remember to post on Monday.

Rob Zombie – Dead City Radio

I like to think I have a average memory but after forgetting to posts for the last two days I am beginning to wonder.  Let’s turn it up a bit today with a new song from Rob Zombie.  Rob was former member of White Zombie and at some point change his name from Robert Bartleh Cummings to Rob Zombie.  Rob has a certain affection for horror movies and zombies and the video reflects that passion.  His new album released April 22 is called “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor” and the cut off the album that is doing well is “Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown” and it is the song of the week.

You got to love the names he comes up with.

Check out Dragula as well from the Hellbilly Deluxe album.

Passenger – Let Her Go

I know I have been truant over the past few weeks but I will make it up to you this week by posting three days in a row.  Yes you heard me three days in a row…you can do the happy dance now.  This artist sounds like a band because of the name Passenger but it really just Mike Rosenberg.  His last band was called Passenger, it released one album and then broke up.  Mike liked the name and keep it for his solo act.  He release an album last year called “All the Little Lights” and the song that did well off the album was “Let Her Go” and it is the song of the week.

On another note today is my wedding anniversary so the song “Still Crazy After All These Years” goes out to my lovely wife Gina.

Michael Franti – I’m Alive (Life Sounds Like)

Last weekend I put the dock in at my house.  Whenever I finish this chore it always puts a smile on my face as I know summer is coming and my house will turn into a cottage.  This is a great time of year as old and new friends drop by and we water-ski, wake-board, tube, barbecue and enjoy each others company.  It is in this frame of mind that I went searching for a song of the week that feels like summer.  One of favourite performers Michael Franti released a new song off his upcoming album last week called I’m Alive (Life Sounds Like) and it is the song of the week.

You cannot help but think but think of summer when you hear this song…hmm I wonder if that bathing suit will still fit.
